When I bought this seal I knew it is an old piece. Later, I found on the internet a same piece from Art Emperor, they ascertained it was from Ming or Qing. I also found that someone said it was from Liaw or Jin, but I blieve the description from Art Emperor is more reasonable, and quoted as following.
Made of Bronze, Nose shape button. The print side of the seal is in Ge type burner shape, the neck of the burner is decorated two square thunder prints. The seal is engraved with Hedong Liu Clan in Zhuan characters. Should be a seal from one distinguished Liu family, apparently, the descendant of famous litterateur and poet, Liu Zongyuan, from Tong dynasty. |

據載，秦末柳安遷入山西後，漢魏晉之際的河東柳氏雖然不如當時的韋氏、杜氏那樣顯赫，但已然是一個比較有影響力的旺族。柳氏在河東的繁榮一直持續到「永嘉之亂」。於此同時，一如釵h比較其他北方大族，除了部分族人留守河東及在北方政權任職以外，柳氏也開始南遷，並且分為兩路，柳恭一支遷於汝穎（今河南汝州和安徽阜陽），史稱「河東柳氏西眷」，柳卓一支遷於襄陽（今襄樊市）稱為「河東柳氏東眷」。
柳宗元，字子厚，河東（今山西永濟）人，世稱柳河東。因貶為柳州刺史，卒于任，又有柳柳州之稱。少年精敏絕倫，為文卓偉精緻，一時輩行推仰。第進士，中博學弘詞科，任監察禦史。參加王叔文變法，力主革新，任禮部員外郎。變法失敗後，貶為永州司馬，轉柳州刺史。以文章著稱於世，與韓愈並稱，名列唐宋八大家，有“韓如美玉，柳如精金；韓如靜女，柳如名姝；韓如德驥，柳如天馬”之說。 |
