Bought this jade from a Hong Kong private collector. This friend brought this piece to me when he visited Taiwan with his wife. At the first sight, I already liked its beautiful color, jade material is quite good, and it is surely a Ming Dynasty piece. From its tail and nose, I believe it could be a tiger. |

中國人的生肖、四方神、各種吉祥動物，都淵源於古代對動物的崇拜。作為東亞猛獸的代表—老虎，自然是膜拜的對象之一。商代甲骨文所提到的「虎方」，也就是虎國，大約在今新鄭的虎牢、中牟附近。虎又被敵對的部族稱為饕餮，也認為是上古四大凶族之一。三千年前的商周青銅器、玉石骨器上都有虎紋造型。青銅器上有一部份獸面紋已被證實為虎面，凡耳朵豎在頭頂（立耳），左右眼角外側有一枚『』形符號，都是虎面的特徵。凡虎紋造型皆可稱為饕餮，故商代１００１大墓出土的石虎，也有人稱它為石饕餮。戰國以後，虎被列為四方神中的西方白虎星君。 |
