Description:
Under a very coincidental opportunity, I got this jade carving of Tiger. Acknowledged an experienced collector from the web, Mr. Lee who working at Taiwan FBI. He posted many of his jade collections on the web. I have less knowledge about ancient jade, but always want to own a piece of Han carving of pig, because that is my zodiac. He happened to have one pig on the net so I arranged to meet with him. Not quite sure if that pig is really from Han period but kind of like its shape and material. That day was actually my birthday so I decided no matter what just buy it.

Talks continued and couldn¡¦t stop, he then invited me to visit his home and review more of his collections. Looked around and found a piece of jade beast in gray color and not quite showed off. However, I like color and dyed jade a lot, so I was about to pick that up and look into more details. Suddenly, Mr. Lee very excited shout out: Ha, I found the piece that I once promised to sell to some one but couldn¡¦t locate it. Now, I can keep my promise. I was thinking no no no, I found the piece, not you, and I am holding it right now. Weighted jade by hand and felt the weight and quality are good. The weathering of jade skin and the carving skill are very nature and in Ming style. The first impression to me it looks like a tiger instead of beast. Held it tight and won¡¦t put it back, it¡¦s my birthday and I am the boss today. Finally, Mr. Lee said ok, ok, your birthday and you got it. In Chinese slang, I play as a pig and eat up the tiger, big win. What a good birthday gift and what a coincidence.

After going back home, I did more research, and it does more like a tiger to me. Four legs and body carved in low relief of curled cloud lines and other grains. Very typical Ming style. The body with gray color surrounded by brown and black grains. Two ears stand out on the head, the tail tilts up, fore feet close to mouth and back feet touch the belly, in rich and round shape body, two eyes wide open with vitality and vigor.

Put on wrist strap and intentionally rubbing only one side. After days rubbing and playing, that side becomes shining and enriched. The other side still keeps the original color. I am sure I got a very unusual mythical tiger!
