Description (guaranteed):

Of flattened profile, one side with a large Chilong laying up at the sides of the jade, the stone of variegated shiny greenish, and creamy and opaque white inclusions, a hole drilled in the center for use as a pendant. The other side with many milky nail patterns. From the Chilong style, colors, and carving works, I believe it could be from Song Dynasty, or at least from early Ming.

I bought this piece in from a Hong Kong collector. Actually, there is a story of this piece. I've been buying quite few items from this Hong Kong collector, and two of us become good friends because of jade. We once went together to ShenZen to visit jade shops, and met with one of his friend, an antique owner and also Hong Kongness, Mr. Shiao. We were talking and browsing around his shop. I actually saw the Bi first, but didn't ask for price and put back to the showcase. My friend then took another two piece white jades together with this large Bi and started to negotiate price with the owner. Finally, the owner gave him a good price and my friend happily bought 3 pieces of jades. I was on the side and regret that I did make the offer first.

After leaving the jade market, I told my friend that if he is to sell the Bi he has to contact with me first, because I really like the subject with Chilong. Few weeks later, I met with this Hong Kong collector again, he also had the piece with him. I then asked him again that you should play enough on this Bi and it's about time to leave it to me. He offered a price, quite expensive, but I really like the Bi, plus such a big piece, so I still paid for it.

Later on, he told me that I actually got a bargain on this piece. He said one of his friends visited him the other day and saw the piece, and felt quite familiar of the piece. His friend said he saw the piece more than 10 years ago at Hong Kong Silk Road Antique Shop (closed now), but he didn't buy due to high price.

My friend met with Mr. Shiao again later on and curiously asked him that did you buy this piece from Silk Road? Mr. Shiao was very surprised how could he know that. He did buy from Silk Road on 1993 and the price was also right as my friend said. Such a coincidence and literally gives my Bi a perfect ID certification.
