Description:
I had very warm feeling when I first saw this Maitreya Statue on the internet, and felt right away that I wanted to buy this statue. I had several discussions with the seller about the price, and he told me that he bought this statue from village of the military dependents in Zuoying when navy removed and rebuilt the village. Because the statue is quite big and rare, so he got with a high price and left very little room for negotiation. I was once serviced in Navy in Zuoying, so I am related to the area, and it is good to have a piece of art from that area as memorial experience, so I finally bought this statue to my collection.

This Maitreya Statue is made of casting iron, very heavy. With his laughing expression face, long earlobes to the shoulder, corpulent belly exposed, peaceful and majestic expression, and a benignant look showing an appearance of benevolent face and serene expression, with prayer beads hung on the neck. Most of Maitreya is either holding a gold nugget or Ruyi, but this statue is in a very rare style of carrying a stack of lections on his shoulder. The whole body is in shining black as the vivid nature of casting iron, some rusty can be easily seen on the folder areas.

There are character marks on the back of the statue, one gourd shape stamp, and one square shape stamp, but it is not quite visible for detail. The artworks after Qing dynasty often have this type of dual stamps, one stamp for place name, and another for maker name or shop name.

Condition and Additional Specification:
The iron figure is in an excellent state of preservation. The details are incised and well delineated. There is some minor encrustation under the base, folder areas, and on the recessed areas in the back and the front of the sculpture.
