Description:
To have this Guan Gong Statue was a little out of my expectation. I was originally dealing with the seller for a batch of Qing and Republic small water pots/drippers, I offered the prices but the lady did not want to sell. I left and then returned again to reoffer a little bit higher price, and finally the lady agreed to sell that batch of water pots/drippers to me. While I was waiting the seller to pack the pots/drippers, I saw this solemn and dignified Guan Gong statue. I went to the temple just few days ago, and was wondering if I could find a worthwhile Lord Guan for collection. This sculpture meets my expectation and wish perfectly, and I like him very much. I then asked the seller right away how much she was willing to sell the statue. She gave me a price and I happened to have enough money with me so I decided to buy this Guan Gong Statue immediately. The lady asked my help to move down the statue from the shelf, I then found out the bronze statue is so heavy, really mighty, solid, and formidable. The lady said this is an antique statue from Qing, but as far as my concern this is a great and loved Guan Gong Statue no matter the statue is antique or not.

This Emperor Guan wearing armor helmet, square face and protruding forehead, crowded and knitted eye brows, almond shaped eyes opened slightly, in solemn and respectful appearance. The Lord Guan dressing a shoulder pad in tiger shape, armor war robe in delicate details, covered with one official robe opened from the right side, wearing war boots, showing his mighty and domineering. Guan Gong with his right hand holding one of his five long whiskers, left hand placing on his lap top, showing his imposing of majestic, impressive power and appearance, seating on the high platform. This Guan Gong Statue is made of fine bronze, very solid and heavy, and big in size, detail in carving works, whole body with powdered gold painting (most rubbed off), one great Chinese style sculpture.

Condition and Additional Specification:
The bronze is in an excellent state of preservation. Most of the orginal cobalt blue and gilding are somewhat rubbed off, as can easily be seen in the photos. The details are incised and well delineated. There are some minor encrustations under the base which were left un-gilt, and on the recessed areas in the back of the sculpture.
