Description (guaranteed):
This figure of Samantabhadra or Vishvabhadra was bought together with the Amitayus (see the other lot introduction). Very small but cute, very dainty but detail. Whole body was made of special copper, shining with fabulous gilt tone. The image is riding on a live like elephant with her legs outstretched slightly, left foot tilt toward inside a little. Right hand is raised upward to clasp a vajra while the left hand is in the gesture of teaching mudra (Dharmachakra-Mudra), very vivid and realistic. She is clad in cloths tied around her hips by a belt. The image wears bejeweled ornaments, namely five-leaved crown, a ribbon descending from the shoulder to the armpits, pairs of circle earrings, necklace with beaded stands of pearls attached. This statue has art style of 18 century in Tibet, affected by the mainland. (see similar reference image of lot 1964 of Cherish Buddha (Ãh©ê¯B¹Ï) from Hanhai in 2009. |

Condition:
The bronze is in an excellent state of preservation. While the high points of the gilding are somewhat rubbed, as can easily be seen in the photos, most of the original gilding remains. The details are incised and well delineated. There is some minor encrustation under the base which was left un-gilt, and on the recessed areas in the back of the sculpture.
