Description (guaranteed):
An 8th/9th Century Gilt Bronze figure of a Bodhisattva seated in a posture of Royal Ease upon a pedestal. The base of the pedestal is bordered with a single row of lotus petals. Integrally cast into the back of the Bodhisattva is a mandola of typical form with engraved flames on its face. The entire figure and mandola are raised upon a four legged rectangular base. The figure is probably a representation of the Goddess Kwan Yin. Offered by David Kenny Oriental Art

Condition:
The bronze is in an excellent state of preservation. While the high points of the gilding are somewhat rubbed, as can easily be seen in the photos, most of the original gilding remains. The details are incised and well delineated. There is some minor encrustation under the base which was left un-gilt, and on the recessed areas in the back of the sculpture.
